Yibin, Sichuan is the largest oil camphor base in China. In 2019, the area of oil camphor forests in Yibin reached more than 500,000 mu (about 82,000 acres), accounting for about 90% of the province and 70% of the country. The city’s camphor oil production was 11,000 tons with a comprehensive output value reaching 3.44 billion yuan. Yibin is known as the “Kingdom of Oil Camphor” and the “World Camphor Sea”. The term “Yibin Oil Camphor” has been officially registered as a geographical indication certification trademark by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce of China. Since 2020, the Yibin oil camphor industry has entered a critical stage of transformation and upgrading. To address the current weaknesses in oil camphor informatization construction and low levels of scientific monitoring and management, the Yibin Oil Camphor Science and Technology Demonstration Park was established.

The customized online monitoring and control system of the Yibin oil camphor technology demonstration park applies digital technology, Internet of Things technology, automation technology, and visualization technology to achieve long-term real-time continuous observation and standardized automatic collection of data on water elements, soil elements, meteorological elements, and biological elements in the oil camphor forest. Fully utilizing monitoring data on soil, environment, and the growth status of oil camphor, inverse models are constructed to analyze the relationship between oil camphor growth and changes in external environments, as well as the relationship between yield and various influencing factors under this changing relationship. Through the operation and management system, adverse effects are monitored and eliminated to increase oil camphor production.

The entire process of park production management includes integrated water and fertilizer management, pest and disease control, harvesting of oil camphor branches and leaves, seedling factory breeding, and crude oil processing. By using advanced high-precision sensors such as drone LiDAR, spectrometers, weather stations, soil moisture meters, and high-definition visible light cameras, dynamic monitoring of key areas of the oil camphor forest is carried out, and monitoring data is uploaded in real time to the integrated command and management center. This can achieve rapid and accurate acquisition of various current data such as climatic factors, soil physical and chemical factors and nutrient elements, forest stand factors, build relevant data models, grasp the growth and production status of the oil camphor forest, and effectively regulate key influencing factors to achieve high-quality and abundant production.

Facing the demand for industrial upgrading of Yibin oil camphor, Jiejiarun worked closely with Yibin Forestry and Bamboo Industry Research Institute and the Institute of New Forestry Technologies of Chinese Academy of Forestry Sciences to jointly create this technology demonstration park for Yibin’s oil camphor industry. This park features high-tech content and advanced management methods, striving to set a new benchmark for digital agriculture in Yibin.
